Manic MinerSTORY / GAMEPLAY
The superstar collier who became a millionaire in the mines of Surbitor (and subsequently starred in Jet Set Willy) has been sent back down the pit for SAM Coupe owners. Once again he must explore the goodie-packed caverns built by a long dead, superior civilization. To complete a cavern, Willy must grab all keys avoiding falling too far, touching a robot baddie, and hitting a poisonous object, such as a bush or spike. The SAM Coupe port is now three times bigger than the original version with 40 totally new caverns, but all of the original 20 levels are there as well. In each of the original twenty caverns are several flashing objects, which you must collect before Willy's oxygen supply runs out. Once the player has collected the objects in one cavern, they must then go to the now-flashing portal, which will take them to the next cavern. As with the ZX original, the game requires pixel-perfect timing.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
The SAM coupe conversion offers greatly updated graphics and sound compared to the original, retaining the pixel-perfect timing.
The music that plays during the title screen is an arrangement of the "The Blue Danube", while the in-game music is the "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from Edvard Grieg's music to Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt, both enhanced to the SAM's great six channel, 8 octave stereo sound SAA 1099 chip by Philips.
